Validity for Subgroups

Published studies find the GMAT exam to be useful across groups.

Using validity information collected from different programs around the world, GMAC is able to analyze information across different groups. Results from many of these studies have been published in peer-reviewed journals, which is a testament to the statistical rigor and appropriateness of the procedures used.

Results from the studies support the use of GMAT scores for predicting success in graduate business programs. The studies included support for using GMAT scores across different demographic groups including:

• Gender
• Race/ethnicity of US students
• Citizenship
• Native language

Other comparative studies looked at different program types or educational backgrounds. These studies included:

• Undergraduate major
• EMBA programs
• Doctoral programs
• Master’s programs (not MBA)
• European programs
