The Assistant Director, Lead Diversity Recruiter, is part of the Owen Graduate School, MBA Recruiting team at Vanderbilt University and is a key individual contributor responsible for leading recruiting and yield events targeting underrepresented minorities, as well as for participating in other MBA recruiting and yield events to bring in top candidates for the MBA program. This position is expected to execute strategies to identify and attract high-quality candidates to the Vanderbilt Business program, respond to candidate inquiries, help candidates through the admissions process, convert prospects to applicants, and move them through the yield process.

The Assistant Director, Lead Diversity Recruiter, will initiate and lead front-line recruitment efforts (in-person, on phone and via email) with a specific group of targeted prospective/admitted students. These include URM Women, URM Men, LGBTQ+; and will also participate in recruitment efforts of other populations (domestic or international) with the goal of enrolling a highly talented and diverse MBA class.

The Office has two internal teams: recruiting team and admissions team. The recruiting team is focused on that: RECRUITING top talent and ensuring that they are converted to an incoming student. The admissions team is focused on building and yielding the incoming class. Together, both teams work closely to ensure that the prospective student experience is the most unique and welcoming.

Key Functions and Expected Performance
• Initiates and leads front-line recruitment efforts (in-person, on phone and via email) with a specific group of targeted prospective/admitted students. These include URM Women, URM Men, LGBTQ+
• Additionally participates in recruitment efforts of other populations (domestic or international)
• Manages a book of business of prospective students, specifically:
• Defining creative ways to reach out, engage and follow up with prospective candidates throughout the entire life cycle of the candidates.
• Executing strategies to identify and attract high-quality candidates to the Vanderbilt Business programs
• Responding to candidate inquiries, helping candidates through the admissions process, converting prospects to applicants, and moving them through the yield process
• Has extensive knowledge of all Vanderbilt Business programs and ability to engage and connect with the targeted diverse population
• Has ability to multi-task and take the lead to create, set up, manage, drive attendance, execute and follow up with attendees for diversity recruiting events
• Sets strategy, with input from the Associate Dean, Director of Recruiting, Director of Marketing & Communication and members of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, for diversity recruiting goals, events and communication which will drive interest in the Vanderbilt Business program
• Owns key diversity events such as Pre-VU Diversity & Inclusion Symposium
• Develops a plan to drive awareness and attendance, manages invitations and application process, engages in sessions, answers questions from prospective students attending the events, and promotes the program to prospective candidates
• Serves as staff liaison to Out and Allied Club; works with other diversity groups such as Latin Business Association and Owen Black Students Association
• Represents Vanderbilt Business at national diversity conferences and events, such as ROMBA, National Black MBA, Prospanica, ALPFA, NSBE, SHPE, etc.
• Actively and passionately contributes as integral part of the Recruiting & Admissions team
• Refines recruiting processes and events to respond to changing needs of the market
• Reviews current processes, identifying areas for improvement, implements new initiatives

Metrics for Success
• Augmentation in number and quality of diversity applicants in overall pool of MBA candidates
• Increased number of diversity applicants who enroll in Vanderbilt Business program
• Efforts to create pipeline of candidates to the program
• Wider dissemination of information on Vanderbilt Business
• Relationship building with diversity organization

Supervisory Relationships
This position reports administratively and functionally to the Director of MBA Recruiting. This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility, but manages processes and initiatives.
Education and Certifications
• Bachelor’s degree is necessary.
• Master’s degree is preferred.

Experience and Skill
• Minimum of two years of experience in a recruiting role in corporate, higher education, or professional setting is required. Education may not be substituted for years of experience.
• Experience in a customer-facing role or in a service-related capacity is required.
• Familiarity with MBA career functions and industries is preferred.
• Knowledge of diverse cultures and interest in diversity and inclusion initiatives.
• Experience with interviewing and evaluation of candidates.
