2009 Application Trends Survey

This report summarizes key findings worldwide from the 10th annual Application Trends Survey conducted by GMAC in 2009 relative to the demands for graduate management education worldwide.

Overview

The 2009 Applications Trends survey was derived from responses provided by 667 graduate management programs at 332 business schools and faculties worldwide representing 35 countries and 46 US states plus Puerto Rico.

Since 2000, this survey of admission professionals has gauged the demand for graduate management education and provides information on applicant pool composition, recruitment strategies and channels, acceptance and enrollment rates, enrollment structure, and incoming class size.

This year, the survey also examined the availability and penetration of tuition assistance programs and allocation of recruitment budgets.

  • Graduate management programs received nearly 230,000 applications from 75,000 candidates.
  • One year, full-time MBA programs reported the strongest application volume and 7 in 10 such programs indicated growth in the number of applicants from the previous year.
  • The growth in 2009 full-time MBA applicants were driven by programs located in other world regions vs. the United States.
