U.S. MBA AI skills: Employer and program priorities

October 2026

Overview

U.S. MBA AI skills: Employer and program prioritiesFor more than two decades, the Corporate Recruiters Survey from GMAC has provided the world’s graduate business schools and employers with data and insights to understand current trends in skill demand, hiring, compensation, and perceptions of MBA and business master’s graduates. The latest edition was fielded in January to April 2026 and published in July 2026.

This is the second year that GMAC has supplemented the regular Corporate Recruiters Survey with a shorter “pulse” survey to capture emerging employer priorities between annual survey cycles.

This year’s Corporate Recruiters Pulse Survey assessed the skills gap between how business schools are preparing their students to use AI and what corporate recruiters are seeking from candidates. In partnership with Graduate Business Curriculum Roundtable, the survey was delivered to U.S. corporate recruiters of MBA graduates, program directors, and deans from September 1 to September 25, 2026.

Industry Insights

“For the last few years, our members have been hearing about the need for ‘AI Ready’ students and have been working hard with their employer partners to define exactly what that means. This survey surfaces some fascinating commonalities as well as differences in key curricular expectations around AI skills development in our MBA programs and what is demanded by employers today. Hopefully the results in the pulse survey will add some needed information to assist in curricular innovations to meet those demands and provide valuable insights into overall curriculum advancement.”  - Jeff Bieganek, Executive Director, Graduate Business Curriculum Roundtable

“As AI becomes embedded in the organizations that hire business school graduates, our annual Corporate Recruiters Survey has tracked rising demand for MBA talent who can use AI tools effectively. With the technology evolving so quickly, the Corporate Recruiters Pulse Survey takes a closer look at what employers mean by ‘AI skills’—and the results show employers want graduates who understand AI’s limits and can apply it ethically.” - Andrew Walker, Director of Industry Communications and report author, GMAC
