Most popular industries for Stanford MBAs

A total of 88% of 2023’s Stanford MBA grads received job offers within three months of graduating, down slightly from the previous year’s 89%. Of those students receiving offers, 80% accepted in that time. 

Finance was the most popular route for MBA grads in 2024 with 37% joining this sector, down slightly from 38% in the class of 2023. These strong rates prove grads value the return on investment offered by finance careers.

Technology and consulting were the second and third most popular routes, respectively. In total 22% of graduates entered technology, a decrease of 2% from 2023, while 14% entered consulting—down by 1% compared with the class of 2023.

Although Stanford no longer publishes data on specific companies, the top employers of previous cohorts were tech giants such as Amazon, Apple, Google, and Facebook. And if you dream of entering consultancy, there’s good news too: McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group (BCG), and Bain, have also been among the top employers of high caliber Stanford grads. 

Many Stanford MBAs also land jobs with leading investment banks and financial organizations, such as HSBC, American Express, and Goldman Sachs.

Average Stanford MBA salary

Stanford's MBA class of 2024 achieved record-high graduate salaries for the seventh consecutive year, boasting a median base salary of $185,500. This is an increase of $3,000 compared with the class of 2023.

For US-based MBA grads overall, the average starting salary was around $190k for the class of 2024, with Stanford MBA salaries well above the US average. 

Stanford MBAs also achieved strong results in terms of sign-on bonuses. Among the cohort, the median sign-on bonus was $30,000, and the median expected performance bonus was $50,000.

Stanford MBA graduates achieved total median compensation of $265,000 in 2024. This total takes into account median base salary, expected performance bonuses, and sign-on bonuses.

Stanford MBAs who entered finance earned the highest median base salary of $200k and a median sign-on bonus of around $30k.

MBAs in consulting recorded the second-highest average base salary of $190k, while technology ranked as the third highest-paid industry, with a median base salary of $185,000.

Energy firms paid Stanford MBAs a median base salary of $165,000, and MBAs in healthcare earned $160,000.

Stanford MBA graduate job destinations

The vast majority of Stanford MBAs stay in North America after graduation, with 91% remaining in the US. Within the US, 45% were located in the West and 31% in the Northeast. A further 1% of graduates moved to Europe, while the rest relocated to Africa (1%); Asia, Australia, and Oceania (2%); Latin America and the Caribbean; and South America (5%).
