As a platform for international business, there are few opportunities quite like Singapore. Sitting at a crossroads between the East and West, the city-state represents a convergence of industries and cultures—ideal as a starting point for your business education.
You’ll also find some of the world’s leading business schools in Singapore. Both Nanyang Business School and the National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School appear in the Financial Times Global MBA Ranking 2026. INSEAD, the leading French business school, also has a campus in Singapore, where MBA students can choose to spend part or even all of their studies.
If you plan to study in Singapore as an international student, you’ll need to secure a Student’s Pass, which functions as your study visa for full-time programs. Here, we break down the essential information for applying for and securing your Singapore student visa, from required documentation to waiting times and language requirements.
Summary of the Singapore student visa process
Applying for a Singapore Student’s Pass is a multistage process. You gather your documentation (passport, proof of acceptance, proof of financial means), start an online application, receive your In-Principle Approval letter, and complete final formalities in person once you arrive in Singapore. For most applicants, ICA indicates that processing for a new Student’s Pass takes up to one month.
What documents are required for a student visa for Singapore?
To secure your Singapore Student’s Pass, you’ll need to supply several documents.
You will need your passport, which should be valid beyond the end of your program; many institutions recommend at least six months’ validity past your course completion date. In addition, you’ll need to upload a passport-style photograph.
You must show proof of enrollment or pre-enrollment. This is typically your formal offer or acceptance letter from your university or business school
Proof of financial means is another typical requirement for your Singapore student visa. This means showing evidence that you have enough funds to cover your studies and living costs, or scholarship or sponsorship letters that will cover these costs.
Finally, a medical report—international students are usually required to undergo a medical examination, including an HIV test and chest X-ray for tuberculosis, to confirm they are free from infectious diseases and fit to study.
What is the full checklist to apply for a student visa for Singapore in 2026?
Your first step should be gathering the above documentation to ensure you are ready to complete your application for a Singapore Student’s Pass.
You’ll then begin your application through Singapore’s Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) online Student’s Pass portal—often referred to as SOLAR or SOLAR+ in university guidance. Using your SOLAR details, you complete the main application form—e-Form 16. You will also need to upload digital or scanned versions of your required documentation and pay the Singapore student visa application fee—S$30 (around US$23).
If your application is successful, ICA will issue an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter. This letter allows you to travel to Singapore for your studies and explains any remaining steps you must complete on arrival. In Singapore you will complete “formalities” at ICA or a designated collection center, which may include document verification, fingerprinting/biometrics, and confirmation of your medical examination results. You’ll then pay the issuance fee—S$60 (around US$46)—and receive your Student’s Pass.
How long does it usually take to get a Singapore student visa?
ICA currently states that the processing time for a new Student’s Pass is within one month, and within two weeks for EduTrust‑accredited private education institutions, not counting the day you submit your application.
Do I need to prove English language skills for a student visa for Singapore?
There is no formal English language requirement in the Student’s Pass process itself.
It’s worth noting that, given the large international community in Singapore, particularly at business schools, MBA and master’s programs are almost entirely taught in English. As such, schools typically require proof of English proficiency—usually through standardized tests such as TOEFL or IELTS, depending on the institution you are attending.
Is Singapore the right study destination for me?
Studying in Singapore offers international students the chance to immerse themselves in diverse business cultures and gain a truly global network. Business schools here focus on hands-on, practical learning that gets you ready for real-world challenges while also helping you grow your own network of classmates and industry professionals.
Add in Singapore’s high quality of life, booming economy, and buzzing startup scene, and it’s easy to see why it’s such an appealing place to study and launch a career.
