  • Kogod Redesigns MBA. American University’s Kogod School of Business has redesigned its MBA programs to reflect the demands of 21st century business and capitalize on its location in Washington, D.C. Grounded in a global, analytical, and experiential approach, the 21-month program consists of a business core—in strategy, accounting, marketing, management, finance, IT, and more—that students complete in their first year. In the second year, students may choose electives with a consulting focus, developed with leading federal and commercial consulting firms. Students who opt not to pursue a consulting career can choose electives from a variety of business offerings, and may also focus on soft skills, such as team building and motivational management. The program also includes two-week signature courses, which will explore the traits of a globally-minded manager and the interconnectedness of the private, public, and nongovernmental sectors, and a required international consulting project. Kogod is also introducing a morning cohort for its part-time MBA program for working professionals.
  • Globalizing support for women. New initiatives to support women in a global context include one from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Smith College, which have partnered to develop women leaders in Asia’s public sector and enhance the global leadership abilities of women in public service. In another initiative to support women globally, Babson College has extended its capacity to research women and business by creating the Global Initiative for Women’s Entrepreneurship Research, a new iteration of iteration of Babson’s Center for Women’s Business Research, which has pioneered the documenting of the role of women as substantial and growing contributors to the U.S. and global economy.
  • Beedie Incubator Advances Innovations. RADIUS, the social innovation lab and venture incubator at Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business, has launched its first cohort of business ventures. They include Localize, a product rating and signage system for grocery store shelves; go2gethera carpooling system for commuters; City Farms Co-op, a collection of small farmers who use IT solutions and goods distribution to access mainstream markets; Shift Delivery, an urban delivery service that uses human- and electric-powered tricycles; and PEDAL, a non-profit that provides low-cost bicycle repair and education services.
  • Babson Professor Launches US$120M Mutual Fund. Babson College entrepreneurship professor Joel Shulman is launching a mutual fund that invests in entrepreneurial companies. The fund has attracted more than US$120M in institutional capital. Dr. Shulman is a Chartered Financial Analyst, Certified Management Accountant, and Certified Cash Manager.
