From the Fundraising Desk The Villanova School of Business has received a commitment of US$50 million from alumnus James C. Davis and his wife, Kim. New York University Stern School of Business has received US$10 million from alumnus William R. Berkley in support of scholarships for exceptional seniors who wish to pursue their MBA at Stern directly following college graduation. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has received US$4 million from the Irwin Family Foundation to support renovations of a building that will be known as the Irwin Center for Doctoral Study in Business. The university has also announced a deferred gift of US$5 million from Thomas W. and Mary Ellen O’Laughlin to create a fund that will support the Center for Business and Public Policy in the College of Business. Rick and Erika Miller have been named as the donors of a US$8 million gift that was given to the School of Business Administration at Portland State University this past spring. David E. Simon has pledged US$5 million to support construction of new facilities at Columbia Business School. The UCLA Anderson School of Management has received US$5 million from Richard Kayne and his wife, Suzanne, to support the school’s investment management specialization program. The Zicklin School of Business, Baruch College, received US$3 million from a long standing professor at the school, Narendra Paul Loomba, and has named its department of management for him. Assistant Professor Dominic Thomas at the Sawyer Business School at Suffolk University is the systems architect and a technical lead for a US$3 million grant from the Skoll Foundation Global Threats Fund to create and deploy new technologies for disease surveillance and response. At Cornell University, the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management’s Center for Sustainable Global Enterprise will lead a US$2.3 million effort to improve economic links to marine ecosystems following the signing of an agreement with the World Bank. The Zhongkun Real Estate Group and alumnus Huang Nubo have invested RMB10 million to establish a new professorship at CEIBS. Virginia Commonwealth University has received US$1 million from Sam Kornblau to advance the real estate program in the VCU School of Business. Singapore Management University has received S$1 million from ARA Asset Management and the Lim Hoon Foundation in support of a scholarship program. The University of Dallas has received US$12 million from Satish and Yasmin Gupta and named its college of business after the donors. The gift will help fund a new building for the school. J. Spencer and Patricia Standish have given US$1.5 million to endow a professorship in entrepreneurship at the University at Albany’s School of Business. New Mexico State University alumnus Bill Sheriff and his wife, Sharon, have donated US$1.1 million gift to the school’s College of Business to establish an endowed chair in entrepreneurship and a scholarship for business students.
