New Programs

  • Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University has launched a Department of Design & Innovation. Bringing together faculty from marketing, policy, strategy and information systems, the department will focus on two core priorities: creating knowledge for generating novel and valuable products, services and systems, and developing organizational leaders and entrepreneurs who are skilled in designing innovative, value-creating relationships with customers, stakeholders, and society.

  • CEIBS has opened a research center for emerging market studies.

  • Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management has started an MBA program under the umbrella of Cornell NYC Tech, the technology campus that Cornell and its academic partner, the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, plan for New York City’s Roosevelt Island. (The campus is currently housed in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan.) The one-year MBA degree program is designed for students with a degree in science or technology and relevant work experience who want to enhance their business knowledge and who seek leadership opportunities in the digital economy.

  • EBS Business School  at EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht and the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University has signed a partnership agreement that includes student exchanges and other joint activities.

  • ESADE has signed on to an articulation agreement among 22 U.S. Jesuit schools and three U.S. non-Jesuit Catholic schools that allows undergraduate business students who have completed a significant portion of a program to either finish their degree requirements at another participating university or transfer credits to an alternate college or university within the network.

  • ESMT European School of Management and Technology has announced plans to launch an international master’s in management program. Targeting young graduates with strong quantitative skills who want to develop their knowledge of business and the management of technology, the 22-month program includes an internship of up to six months in Germany or abroad.

  • For the second year, the Georgetown Entrepreneurship Initiative and the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University partnered on Summer StartUp, a program designed to help teams of current students and alumni to kick-start business plans over the summer.

  • Great Lakes Institute of Management in Chennai has introduced a specialization in business analytics for its flagship postgraduate program in management.

  • Harvard Business School executive education will host a program on finance, design, and leadership in real estate management this October on the HBS campus. HBS has also announced two upcoming sessions of its advanced management program, “Transforming Proven Leaders into Global Executives,” scheduled for October and next April.

  • Last month, IESE Business School hosted a module of the Program for Management Development, an initiative of MDE Business School in Ivory Coast, on its Barcelona campus.

  • IMD has partnered with the International Air Transport Association to offer leadership training to senior travel and tourism executives in China. The three-day program will take place on the IMD campus in Lausanne in two segments during July and September.

  • Korea University Business School has signed a memorandum of understanding covering research and teaching with the Universiti Brunei Darussalam Faculty of Business, Economics, and Policy Studies.

  • The London School of Economics and Political Science has been chosen as one of the partners in a new independent research center, the What Works Centre for Local Economic Growth, which seeks to significantly improve the use of evidence in the design and delivery of policies for local economic growth and employment.

  • A new program for foreign executives at MIT Sloan School of Management will allow participants to learn top level management skills in their native languages while networking with leaders from across the globe. MIT Sloan will be accepting approximately one hundred executives into its first Global Executive Academy program, to be held in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in December. Using more than 20 translators, the program will be conducted simultaneously in Arabic, English, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.

  • The Price College of Business at the University of Oklahoma has established an undergraduate concentration in sports management as part of its general management major.

  • Portland State University’s School of Business Administration has announced plans to launch more online undergraduate degrees in 2014, including a bachelor’s business degree in supply and logistics management and a certificate program in social entrepreneurship. These new programs are in addition to several others set to launch this fall, including an online bachelor’s business degree in management and leadership, an online master’s degree in global supply chain management, and online certificate programs in the business of craft brewing and the athletic and outdoor industry.

  • Purdue University's Krannert School of Management and College of Veterinary Medicine are teaming up to offer veterinarians and their staffs graduate-level business skills. The Veterinary Practice Management Program provides 72 hours of instruction to help veterinary professionals manage the business side of their practices.

  • This month, the Rutgers Center for Management Development at Rutgers Business School is offering a two-day program, “Turbo-Charged Financial Analyst,” to help financial service professionals perform their jobs more efficiently.

  • The inaugural session of a new three-part symposium on productivity, service quality management and innovation, jointly sponsored by Singapore Management University and the Workforce Development Agency to help local service companies, sold out in just two weeks.

  • Sawyer Business School at Suffolk University is piloting a leadership course for the Boston Police Department. The class offers participants a chance to step back from their daily operational activities and build critical leadership skills.

  • Stanford Ignite, a part-time certificate program at Stanford Graduate School of Business, is now expanding to several innovation hubs around the globe. The program teaches core management skills and entrepreneurship to technical professionals and graduate students focused on subjects other than business. Introduced in 2011, the program is expanding this fall to Bangalore and Paris, with plans for a program in Beijing next year.

  • The Fox School of Business at Temple University has launched an executive doctorate in business administration. The part-time program combines theoretical and research methodology courses with personalized mentorship.

  • The Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University has announced a “lock-step” format option for students pursuing a master of science in finance. The format enables students to complete the program requirements in nine months.

  • Observing that “entrepreneurs come from all walks of life,” the University of British Columbia is launching “Entrepreneurship 101,” a course on the essentials of entrepreneurship that is open to students from across the university. Taught by the Sauder School of Business, the interdisciplinary course focuses on such topics as building a team to launch a new venture, strategic planning, going to market, building capacity, and taking a start-up to the next stage. It will draw on industry experts and leading research in the field. “We’re striving to have as much student diversity in the class as possible,” says Sauder lecturer Paul Cubbon. “The key is to equip students with an entrepreneurial perspective early in their studies so that they can apply it as they progress through their programs.”

  • The University of Chicago Booth School of Business has announced that it will relocate its Asia executive MBA program from Singapore to Hong Kong, part of the school's strategy as it aims to deepen its global engagement. The school’s Asia Executive MBA Program will be run initially in a temporary location in Hong Kong while the school works to build a permanent campus site. In a statement, the school said that Hong Kong’s proximity to China was particularly attractive. The University of Chicago opened a center in Beijing in 2010.

  • The University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business has launched an online certificate in digital marketing. The four-course, 16-credit program is designed for degreed professionals who want more expertise. 

  • The University of Exeter has announced that IBM will be one of the first University of Exeter Strategic Corporate Partners.

  • The University of Kentucky’s Gatton College of Business and Economics and the University of Louisville’s College of Business have announced that they are developing a plan to offer the state’s first joint MBA program for executives, targeting a launch in the fall of 2014.

  • The University of Michigan's Ross School of Business has created a master of management program that starts next July. The 10-month, cohort-based program is designed for students who did not major in business as undergraduates.

  • The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania has received a major gift from William L. and Phyllis Mack to permanently endow the Mack Institute for Innovation Management. 

  • The University of Queensland Business School, in collaboration with leaders from prominent Indigenous organizations, recently conducted a course designed to foster the next generation of Indigenous leaders. Fourteen participants, with backgrounds ranging from medicine, social work, nursing and professional sport, attended the week-long executive education program.

  • Next month, the Ivey Business School at Western University will celebrate both the grand opening of its new $C110 million, 270,000-square-foot, Gold LEED certified Richard Ivey Building and the school’s 90th anniversary.  

  • XLRI, Jamshedpur and IKisan, an agribusiness web portal owned by the Nagarjuna Group, are partnering to offer an online certificate program in agribusiness management.

  • The African University College of Communications in Ghana has named its business school after Sir Sam E. Jonah.

  • The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration has opened a satellite facility in Takoradi.

  • Indian Institute of Management Kashipur has announced a management development program on Islamic banking and finance, scheduled for August 24-25 in New Delhi.

  • This fall, Penn State Harrisburg will offer its MBA program on the campus of Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

  • The Postgraduate Institute of Management in Sri Lanka has announced a short course on public policy for business leaders, academics, researchers, and government officials.

  • As part of a strategic plan, Rochester Institute of Technology has shortened the name of the E. Philip Saunders College of Business to Saunders College of Business.

  • Southern New Hampshire University is partnering with Berklee College of Music to offer an online MBA in the music business.

  • SUNY Oswego will offer an MBA program in health services administration starting this fall.

  • William Carey University has broken ground on a new building for its School of Business.

  • UK-based entrepreneur Praveen Pula is the driver behind the newly established Woxsen Business School in Hyderabad.

  • The University of West Alabama College of Business is starting its first graduate degree, an MBA program with concentrations in general business and finance, this fall.

  • This fall marks the inaugural semester of the Energy MBA at the University of Wyoming College of Business, a collaborative effort among the college, the university’s school of energy resources, and energy industry leaders. The program, which requires an additional 24 credit hours beyond the MBA core curriculum, can be completed in 21 months.
