Biz Buzz: New Programs

  • Ashridge Business School and China Value, the Chinese equivalent of LinkedIn, have launched a joint executive masters in management program.

  • In Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business, the Sports Sponsorship & Sales (S3) program has launched the S3 Report, a monthly online publication featuring the best sales and marketing practices in the sports industry.

  • Carnegie Mellon University has established a center for innovation and entrepreneurship.

  • Cass Business School, part of City University London, is partnering with the Inspirational Development Group and the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, to launch a master’s in leadership program. Taught at Cass and at Sandhurst, the two-year part-time program targets senior managers and will focus on developing personal leadership skills as well as business knowledge.

  • CEIBS and INSEAD have launched two programs focusing on European and Chinese businesses. The “CEIBS-INSEAD Expanding Opportunities: Doing Business in China” and “Expanding Opportunities: Doing Business in Europe” programs seek to equip participants with the tools and knowledge to cultivate effective business engagement and develop the steps executives need to succeed in a foreign and challenging environment.

  • Having signed agreements with Shenzhen University and the Shenzhen Municipal Government, the Chinese University of Hong Kong has started planning for an independent campus in Shenzhen, which will be called the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.

  • EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht has signed a long-term cooperation agreement to offer training and continuing professional education for staff at KPMG.

  • After opening a branch in Amsterdam this past October, Rotterdam School of Management at Erasmus University is expanding again, buying the privately owned Nyenrode Business University in Utrecht for €81.4 million.

  • Fundação Getulio Vargas has partnered with Angola’s National School of Administration and the Polytechnic Institute of Angola to launch MBA programs in Angola in business management and project management.

  • Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business has launched an MBA in the business of medicine to prepare practicing physicians for management roles. The two-year program, which begins this September, will be delivered half online and half through weekends in residence.

  • Oklahoma State University’s Spears School of Business now houses its graduate programs in a newly created branch, the Watson Graduate School of Management.

  • The Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University has launched the Military Scholars Program, an initiative to recruit and support military veterans.

  • The Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University has established RADIUS (RADical Ideas, Useful to Society), an interdisciplinary social innovation lab and venture designed to develop and nurture practical solutions to pressing social problems.

  • The Stanford Graduate School of Business will offer its first Europe-based “Stanford Ignite” program in September in partnership with École polytechnique. The 9-week, part-time program in Paris will include fundamentals of business as well as practical aspects of identifying, evaluating, and moving business ideas forward. Separately, the school has announced “Building Business Models,” the latest in a series of classes offered as part of the Stanford Innovation and Entrepreneurship Online Certificate Program, which launched last September.

  • Thunderbird School of Global Management has announced plans to partner with Laureate Education, Inc., to expand its presence around the world. Thunderbird and Laureate will create a jointly owned entity through which Thunderbird will open multiple international instructional sites, expand its online and executive education programs, and offer undergraduate degree programs.

  • This fall, the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies in the Stillman School of Business at Seton Hall University will offer all university undergraduates the opportunity to take a 3-credit elective course called “Exploring Entrepreneurship,” designed for non-business majors.

  • The School of Information Studies and Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University have partnered to create an undergraduate concentration in digital retail strategies, designed for students interested in blending retail management and information technology.

  • Tsinghua University and the University of Montreal have signed a memorandum of understanding for academic exchange and cooperation.

  • The University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business has announced a four-day executive education program, “Strategic Marketing Management in Emerging Markets,” which it will offer in July.

  • The University of Connecticut School of Business plans to offer a BS in financial management program at its Stamford, Connecticut campus, starting this fall.

  • Hesam Panahi, a clinical assistant professor at the C. T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston, is the impetus behind RED Labs, a new startup accelerator that seeks to help students transform entrepreneurial ideas into businesses.

  • As part of a branding update, the University of Western Ontario has adopted a shorter version of the official name of its Richard Ivey School of Business. It plans to refer to the school as the Ivey Business School or just Ivey.

  • Vlerick Business School has developed a “Business Coach Behavioural Index,” designed to map behaviors that distinguish exemplary coaching.

  • The Leon Recanati Graduate School of Business Administration, Tel Aviv University’s Faculty of Management, has launched the Ireland Israel Business Network, designed to help Irish and Israeli professionals network, develop commercial partnerships, and explore opportunities for knowledge and innovation transfer.

  • ESCP Europe Business School has partnered with Xiamen University School of Management to offer a one-year, two-city master in European business program in China. 

  • IIM Kozhikode celebrated its 15th annual convocation by inaugurating a museum dedicated to Indian business.

  • Lahore University of Management Sciences has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan to assist graduates from the university’s Suleman Dawood School of Business in becoming professional chartered accountants.

  • Maastricht School of Management and Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy are partners in an executive MBA with tracks in energy management and international business that starts in September in Azerbaijan.

  • Mercy College is creating a one-year MBA program as well as a three-year BS in business administration.

  • The University of California, Riverside School of Business Administration is launching a master of finance and a Flex MBA.

  • The Northampton Business School at the University of Northampton has signed memorandums of cooperation with two universities in Vietnam, Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Da Nang University, for joint delivery of its MBA course.
