From the Fund-Raising Desk

The Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester has announced four major gifts totaling nearly US$7 million in support of the university’s capital campaign. The funds will advance strategic initiatives in scholarship and faculty support, curricular enhancement, and increasing the school’s presence in New York City.

The College of Business at University College Dublin is one of the beneficiaries of a €3.17 million donation from Elan Corporation, a biotechnology company, designed to “build capacity at the interface between business and science disciplines.” Supporting scholarships and a lecture series, the money will also fund a chair in the “Business of Biotechnology,” a joint appointment between the university’s colleges of business and science. The professor will be charged with bolstering the science/technology content of the business school curriculum and enhancing the business and innovation content of the science curriculum, and will develop specialized masters programs and other graduate courses in the business of biotechnology.

With support totaling €1.5 million from the Dietmar Hopp Foundation, EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht is establishing an endowed chair in its Institute for Sports, Business & Society. Said to be the first of its kind worldwide, the chair will focus on the social and economic impact of recreational and professional sport.
