GMAT Exam Expands Global Reach, Surpassing 500 Test Centers

With the opening of several new test centers including one in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the GMAT exam has crossed a significant milestone in access: It is now offered year-round at more than 500 test centers worldwide.

The number of GMAT test centers around the world is up more than 25 percent since 2006, when the Graduate Management Admission Council partnered with Pearson VUE  to improve development and exam delivery, including global access. Since that time, the number of exams delivered worldwide has increased 28 percent, bolstered by 56 percent growth at test centers outside of the United States. A record 269,614 GMAT exams were taken in calendar year 2009, including 112,559 taken outside the United States.

“We are proud to offer the GMAT exam year-round at more than 500 test centers around the world,” says  Peg Jobst, executive vice president of GMAC, which administers the exam on behalf of business schools worldwide. “We are extending the global reach of the exam to meet the increasingly global scope of business and graduate business education.”

The GMAT exam is offered exclusively in a computer adaptive format, making it the only standardized business school test that can be taken all year round in all parts of the world. The exam is administered in more than 110 countries and used by approximately 4,750 business programs at 1,900 schools, including 52 programs and six new schools added in the last quarter of 2009. 

The new center in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, opened in late December in response to multiple third-party inquiries. With business schools showing more interest in recruiting students from the Middle East, the center will meet increasing demand from both test takers and schools.
