FIRST ALERT – Get Ready for the 2008 GMAC® Annual Industry Conference

This year’s theme, Diverse Perspectives, Like Minds, speaks to the fact that we come to our work from different angles, but at the same time have many ideas and insights we can share. We can learn much from each other!

As GMAC regulars know, this conference is always fully subscribed, and each year some latecomers are relegated to a wait list.

Conference programming this year is targeted to specific areas of responsibility in graduate management education—admissions, marketing, MBA and doctoral program administration, and student services—with a special emphasis for each role on practical, in-depth sessions on timely topics.

In addition to rich opportunities for networking and learning from peers, the conference will feature timely insights from two powerful keynote speakers:

George Yip is the new dean at Erasmus University’s Rotterdam School of Management and one of the world's leading authorities on global strategy and marketing, managing global customers, internationalization, and multinational strategies for the Asia-Pacific region. He previously managed the research and innovation process to develop intellectual capital for Capgemini, a €7 billion global consulting, technology, and outsourcing company headquartered in France. He is also a senior fellow at the Advanced Institute of Management Research, the UK’s research initiative on management. A prolific author and past professor at London Business School and Cambridge University, Yip travels the world speaking and consulting on such topics as strategic transformation, corporate governance and global strategy, and international competitiveness.

Tamara J. Erickson is an expert on the changing workforce and innovative ways to shift the relationship between individuals and organizations to enhance workforce productivity.  She is president of The Concours Institute, the research and education arm of The Concours Group, a professional service firm supporting senior executives through the blend of leading-edge intellectual capital and pragmatic business results. Erickson is coauthor of Workforce Crisis: How to Beat the Coming Shortage of Skills and Talent, published by Harvard Business School Press in 2006, and was a lead contributor to two multi-year research initiatives:  Demography is De$tiny, exploring the implications of current demographic changes on human resource practices; and The New Employee/Employer Equation, developing new and powerful approaches to increasing employee engagement through segmentation.

With significant input from professionals in the field, we also plan a series of carefully targeted, tightly focused concurrent sessions. Topics under development include:

  • Admissions Operations Industry Practices (new this year)
  • Responding to Student Activity Proliferation
  • A Tactical Approach to Building Community and Commitment
  • Maximizing the Use of Technology for Better Communication through the Pipeline
  • Navigating the Process of Selecting and Implementing a New CRM System
  • How to Pitch an Idea in 60 Seconds
  • Creating a Marketing Plan (new this year)

Also planned are sessions on reaching out to recruit women, students in Latin America and Germany, Native Americans, working professionals, and part-time students.
