GMAC® and Military.com Partner to Help Military Personnel Pursue MBA Degrees

Military personnel will be able to access important resources through www.mba.com/military, where they will find data on the value of a graduate business degree, information on b-schools, market research, discussion forums, peer profiles, and steps to earning the degree.

“Creating access to quality graduate business education is our mission, and we are always seeking new and more effective ways to help people connect with the information they need about the MBA,” says Susan Motz, vice president of client services at GMAC. “For that reason, we are excited about this partnership, and about opportunities to serve military personnel by helping them find a graduate business program that meets their educational and professional needs through Operation MBA.”

Research shows that military personnel often distinguish themselves as graduate business students, in part because they have strong leadership skills and experience. Corporate recruiters avidly seek to hire staff with military experience and an MBA. Yet only a small percentage of military personnel choose to pursue graduate business degrees. Past research suggests that this gap is due in part to limited awareness within this candidate pool about resources, funding, and information that can lead them to this important degree.

Nonetheless, military personnel with graduate business degrees report a significant career advantage. For example, John Frederick, an assistant vice president for Wachovia® Bank, says that “the MBA opened many doors for me. And when it came to competing against other MBAs for the same position, my military experience helped me close the deal. It provided quantifiable real-world experience and leadership qualities companies were looking for, which gave me a leg up on everyone else.”
