GMAT® Price to Change January 1, 2005

At the start of 2005, the price of the GMAT® test will increase to U.S. $250 from U.S. $225, in accordance with a pricing plan instituted by the GMAC® Board of Directors in December 2003. The prices of auxiliary GMAT® services, such as Additional Score Reports and rescheduling test appointments, will be unaffected by the upcoming increase.

The GMAC® Board of Directors established the schedule of GMAT® test price increases to cover the rising costs of test security, of meeting demand for the test in more locations around the world, and of ongoing improvements in customer service related to the test and auxiliary GMAT® services. In addition to these anticipated costs, in recent years, GMAC® also has had to assume the cost of international litigation to protect the copyrights and trademarks associated with the GMAT® test. The test price increase will accommodate all costs associated with the GMAT® and provide a necessary operating margin.

What does this mean for test takers?

Wanting to know whether the price of the test could deter potential candidates from applying to business school, GMAC® researched the possible impact of a price increase and found it to be negligible. We studied the relationship between the test price and the total price of graduate management education around the world, including in economically developing nations, and found that the price of the GMAT® accounts for an average of 1.6% of the total cost of graduate management education and that nowhere does the cost of the test represent enough of the total cost of education to influence potential applicants’ decisions about whether to apply to graduate school.
