U.S.-Run Visa Information Center Closes in China

On April 23, 2004, the Shanghai Public Security Bureau shut down the All-China Visa Information Office, a visa consulting service run by a private U.S. firm. The firm, which provided general information and scheduled visa appointments at the U.S. embassy, did not have an operating license in China and has been accused of overcharging clients, a charge it denies.

In an April 27, 2004, wire story by Agence France-Presse, Kong Quan, a spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry, said the fate of the office is being discussed.

The impact of the closure on business schools is unknown at this time. If you have information about this story that you wish to share with other business schools, please contact us at gmnews@gmac.com.
