E. LaBrent Chrite has been appointed associate dean and MBA director of University of Arizona’s Eller Graduate School of Management. Chrite was previously assistant dean of global development and managing director of the William Davidson Institute at the University of Michigan. In addition, he taught graduate-level courses on emerging market economies and business strategies for sub-Saharan Africa. Chrite earned a PhD at the Center for the Study of Higher and Post Secondary Education at the University of Michigan, a master of science in health care administration at the University of Missouri–Columbia, and a bachelor of arts in community health services at Michigan State University.

William C. “Curt” Hunter, senior vice president and director of research of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, has been named dean of the University of Connecticut School of Business. Hunter’s expertise spans monetary policy, banking and financial markets, regional economics, strategic planning, and financial management. Prior to his appointment as chief economic advisor to the Chicago Reserve Bank, Hunter was a vice president in charge of basic research at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, where he also managed the financial markets group. He has held faculty positions at Emory University, Atlanta University, the University of Georgia, Chicago State University, and Northwestern University.

Hunter has published more than 70 articles in leading finance and economics journals, is the editor of six books, and is currently coeditor of Research in Banking and Finance. He also has consulted with numerous government agencies and private corporations. In 1982, he was a visiting professor at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, and in 1983 lectured at the NATO Advanced Study Institute, Anacapri, Italy. He served as a U.S. Treasury Advisor to the Bulgarian National Bank and its Bank Consolidation Company from 1992 to 1994 and has consulted with the National Bank of Hungary and its asset consolidation company, the National Bank of Romania, the Korea Institute of Finance, the Korean Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Bank of Korea, the Federal Agency for Insolvency Cases of the Russian Federation, the Peoples Bank of China, the Banca D’Italia, and the Swiss National Bank, among others. Hunter holds a BS degree from Hampton University and MBA and PhD degrees from Northwestern University.

Lisa Mattiace has been appointed assistant dean for alumni and college relations in the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. In this new position, she is responsible for alumni relations, student relations, community outreach, and special events. Mattiace worked in various positions for West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia, from 1980 to 1996. In 1996, she became executive director of university relations for the University of Charleston in Charleston, West Virginia.

Mattiace holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a marketing emphasis and a master’s degree in education administration from West Virginia University. She has published and presented on the subjects of student recruitment, institutional image, and the development of effective publications.

Mike Page has been named dean of the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus Graduate School of Business. Page succeeds Kai Peters, who has accepted a position as chief executive officer at Ashridge Business School (U.K.) (see Kai Peters) and begins his new appointment there in mid-October.

Page is an honorary Professor of the University of Cape Town at the Graduate School of Business and holds professorial appointments at Henley Management College (U.K.) and Stellenbosch Business School (S.A.). After working for some years in the field of civil engineering, Page entered the academic arena 16 years ago at the University of Cape Town, where he later became Len Abrahamse Professor of Finance at the Graduate School of Business. He has been teaching at the RSM since 1996, and as dean of academic affairs, he has focused on improving the quality of the RSM programs by formalizing and structuring processes. He is a founding member of the OneMBA and is a highly regarded member of the finance faculty. In addition to his responsibilities at the RSM, Page continues as a consultant to fund management firms. He has published and presented papers internationally in both finance and marketing. In addition, Page is frequently invited to speak on the latest trends and developments in management education at industry meetings organized by the European Foundation of Management Development (EFMD) and the Executive MBA Council (EMBAC). Page holds a BS in engineering, an MBA, and a PhD.

Liz Riley has been promoted to assistant dean for daytime MBA admissions at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. She had served as director of daytime MBA admissions since 1998. Riley holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from North Carolina State University.

Robin W. Roberts has been appointed interim associate dean of graduate and external programs at the University of Central Florida’s (UCF’s) College of Business Administration. In this position, Roberts, who has been at UCF since 1998, will oversee all graduate programs at the master’s, executive, and doctoral levels. Roberts will continue to serve as the Burnett Eminent Scholar Chair in the School of Accounting. His research interests include auditing, ethics and society, and public-sector issues, and he serves as associate editor of Advances in Accounting Behavioral Research. He has previously taught at the University of Missouri–Columbia and was an associate professor and Union Pacific/Charles B. Handy Professor of Accounting at Iowa State University. Roberts received his PhD from the University of Arkansas.

Admissions, Career Services, and Marketing Professionals, Program Directors, and Others

Tammy Boehman has been promoted to associate director of admissions for the full-time MBA program at the University of Texas’s McCombs School of Business. Boehman holds a bachelor of science in genetic biology from Purdue University.

Jan Brocker (formerly Jan Johnsen-Brocker) will take over as academic programs manager for the Daniels College of Business, University of Denver. In this newly created position, she will focus on course scheduling, curriculum development, student satisfaction assessment, and classroom-based technology support. Brocker was assistant dean for admissions and student services at the Daniels College of Business from 1995 to 2003. Her prior work experience includes positions as marketing director, director of student academic services, and director of distance learning at Regis University. She was also an outside sales representative for several years and worked in continuing education at Colorado State University. Brocker holds a bachelor’s degree in human development and a master’s degree in adult education from Colorado State University. She is currently working toward a PhD in higher education administration at the University of Denver.

Very active with the Graduate Management Admission Council®, Brocker served on the GMAC® Board of Directors in 2002–03. For two years prior, she was a member of the GMAC Recruiting Services Advisory Task Force. In 1999, she chaired the GMAC Professional Development Advisory Committee, and in 1998, she served on the GMAC Annual Conference Advisory Committee.

Briget A. Collins has been appointed associate director of admissions for the MBA program at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. Previously, Collins spent nearly four years at the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee Business School as an MBA/MS academic advisor with additional responsibility for recruiting prospective students. Collins also served as director of career development and community service at Kentucky Wesleyan College. Collins earned a bachelor’s degree at Eastern Illinois University and a master’s degree in counseling and student affairs administration at Western Kentucky University. She is a 2000 GMAC Professional Development Program alumna.

Jennifer Frick has been promoted to assistant director of the Career Opportunities Center for the Carnegie Mellon School of Business.

Daniel Garza has transitioned from director of marketing to director of domestic admissions for the full-time MBA program at the University of Texas’s McCombs School of Business. He will share admissions responsibilities with Matt Turner, director of international admissions. Garza holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University.

Jill Goetz has been appointed assistant director of the Career Opportunities Center at the Carnegie Mellon School of Business.

Maria Hanlin has been named director of recruiting and admissions for the W. P. Carey MBA—Online Program at Arizona State University. Hanlin had been an assistant director of admissions for the W. P. Carey MBA—Full-Time Program for two years. Prior to that, she was on staff at the College of Business Administration at the University of Texas at El Paso, where she directed the implementation of the recruiting/admissions process for the a newly launched Texas statewide online MBA. In her nine years in El Paso, she also served as faculty immigration specialist and international student advisor. She earned a master of arts in higher education administration from New Mexico State University and a bachelor of arts in psychology from the University of Georgia.

David Lane has been appointed director of communications at London Business School. Lane previously worked for Export Credits Guarantee Department at the Department for Trade and Industry, where he was director of marketing and customer relationship management. Prior to that, Lane was head of NatWest Brand Communications and Customer Marketing at Royal Bank of Scotland Group.

Kai Peters has been named chief executive officer of Ashridge Business School (U.K.). Peters joins Ashridge from the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University, where he had held the position of dean since 2000. From 1994 to 1999, he was director of MBA programs at RSM. Before working at RSM, Peters worked with the Science Research Associates Division of IBM in Canada, where he was responsible for marketing computer-based training programs for proprietary IBM applications. He also worked at Volkswagen in Germany, in management development.

Peters is a frequent lecturer on management education and technology and serves on supervisory and advisory boards for AMBA, AACSB International, GMAC, and numerous organizations in technology and health care. In his academic life, Peters has concentrated on the links among entrepreneurship, technology, and education. He holds degrees from York University, Toronto; University of Quebec in Chicoutimi; and Erasmus University in the Netherlands.

Rudy Pino has been hired as director of recruiting and admissions for the W. P. Carey MBA—Full-Time Program at Arizona State University (ASU). Pino has been at ASU in human resources for three years, helping to manage campus-wide recruitment and hiring practices. Previously he was a senior recruiter at INROADS/Arizona, where he coached students to prepare them for internships and full-time jobs in corporations. A marketing graduate of the W. P. Carey School of Business, he has been a long-time active supporter of business education. He currently serves as a board member and officer of the Hispanic Business Alumni at ASU.

Stephen Rakas has been appointed assistant director of the Career Opportunities Center at the Carnegie Mellon School of Business.

Ralf Seifert has been appointed program director for Mastering the Technology Enterprise, a program at the International Institute for Management Development designed specifically for technically trained executives with an ambition to take on larger leadership challenges in technology-based enterprises. Seifert will be taking over program responsibilities from Derek Abell, founder of the Mastering the Technology Enterprise program, who will retire from International Institute for Management Development this year.

Laura TerWisscha has been named managing director of the Carlson Consulting Enterprise, one of four student-run enterprises at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management. Her responsibilities will include overseeing student consulting engagements, mentoring student consultants, and managing client relationships. TerWisscha brings to the position more than 17 years of experience in enterprise transformation, focusing on top- and bottom-line performance improvement, program management, mergers and acquisitions, and business process reengineering. Prior to joining the Carlson School, TerWisscha served as a senior manager at Deloitte Consulting. She also held leadership positions with Prudential Home Mortgage Company and General Motors Acceptance Corporation/Residential Funding Corporation. For the past seven years, TerWisscha also managed the Deloitte Consulting Case Challenge student competition in partnership with the Carlson School.

Patrick Winter has been hired by the W. P. Carey MBA at Arizona State University (ASU) working professional programs. Winter had served as an assistant director of admissions in the W. P. Carey MBA for two years. Prior to that, he coordinated recruitment strategies at ASU’s undergraduate admissions office for three years. Before coming to ASU, he was assistant director of undergraduate admissions at the University of Nebraska. He has served as a mentor in the ASU Maroon & Gold Scholarship Program. He will complete a master’s of education in higher and postsecondary education at ASU in December 2003.
