University of Missouri—Central Missouri Food Bank

Sara Coe, Gordon E. Crosby, Jr. MBA Candidate and MBA Association VP of Philanthropy, reports on MBA volunteer activities.

On Friday, March 13 around seven MBA students at the University of Missouri gathered at the Central Missouri Food Bank—wearing their TeamMBA t-shirts—and volunteered three hours of their time.

After getting signed in and cleaned up, we made stations for cleaning tins cans of corn. After cleaning, rinsing, bleaching, and drying the cans, we labeled each one and stacked them on pallets. We cleaned and labeled at least 500 cans in our time there.

The Central Missouri Food Bank (CMFB) distributes food to people in need through a network of 145 agencies in 33 Missouri counties. CMFB provides free food to soup kitchens, emergency food pantries, shelters for the abused and homeless, programs for low income children, and senior citizens, and rehabilitation centers. In 2006, the food bank distributed more than 20 million pounds of food and related products which helped feed more than 80,000 people per month!
