University of Maryland—DC Central Kitchen

Reported by Devon Loetz, program manager for the full-time MBA program at University of Maryland Smith School.

DC Central Kitchen (DCCK) & DC Project Student volunteers at DC Central Kitchen were greeted by its founder and nonprofit industry thought leader, Robert Egger. DCCK, one of the country’s premier homeless advocacy organizations and service providers, recovers unused food, delivers meals to partner social service agencies, and trains homeless individuals to work in the food service industry. During their visit, students met and interacted with DCCK board members who explained the organization’s operations and the value proposition. DCCK is a partner of DC Project, which is an organization focused on ensuring the inclusion of DC’s impoverished and at-risk individuals in the local clean energy economy.
