Women and Graduate Management Education (2013)

March 08, 2013

To commemorate International Women’s Day on March 8, 2013, GMAC prepared this Data-To-Go as a summary of current data about women in the business school pipeline.

Overview

Findings in this Data-To-Go are derived from several sources of GMAC test taker and survey information in 2012-2013.

Key points include:

  • A new record number of women taking the GMAT exam. In testing year 2012, a total of 122,843 exams (43%) were taken by women worldwide, setting a new record in both the number and share of exams taken by women. Source: GMAC Profile of Graduate Management Admission Test Candidates, 2008–2012
  • Increased demand for specialized master’s programs. For example, of all graduate management programs responding to a GMAC Application Trends Survey in 2012, Master in Marketing/Communications (63%) and Master of Accounting (56%) programs reported the greatest percentage of women in their applicant mix.
  • Overall, 88% of the women in the class of 2012 were employed at the time of graduation, and about 9 out of 10 (96%) said they got the type of job they wanted. Source: GMAC Alumni Perspectives Survey, 2013.
