Managing Diversity Initiatives Executive Summary
With the Diversity Pipeline Alliance®, we conducted our first survey on diversity recruitment and retention in 2006.

GMAC forms Strategic Alliances with diversity-focused organizations, through which we present the value of graduate management education to populations underrepresented in higher education.

GMAC® Diversity Initiatives

For the last decade, the Council has been active in diversity initiatives, investing more that $4 million in programs and organizations, as well as in pipeline development through the Diversity Pipeline Alliance an initiative of the Graduate Management Admission Council®.

As a sponsor of The PhD Project since its inception in 1994, GMAC® has invested more than $1.8 million to increase diversity among business school faculty, one of management education’s most successful diversity initiatives involving schools and organizations.

The Council has renewed and redirected its commitment to diversity by creating a Diversity Initiatives area to provide services and support for preparing and enlarging underrepresented populations in the graduate b-school pipeline.

GMAC’s goal is to increase awareness, encourage involvement, and start conversations about graduate business education with undergraduates, early career professionals, business professionals, advisors, and parents.  We hope that our diversity initiatives will lead to more highly qualified students in the graduate management education pipeline.

The Council’s research has shown the value of a diverse classroom in enriching the educational experience of all students. Graduate business schools have long cited the importance to students of what they learn from their peers as well as from the curriculum. GMAC will continue to collect and analyze data about the diversity of graduate business applicants, students, and alumni, and develop reports to help admissions professionals reach out to new markets and build diverse classes.
