GMAC® has collected, analyzed, and disseminated research on issues of strategic and practical importance to management education for the past 50 years. A portion of those large-scale data sets are now available to qualified researchers for licensing through the MERInstitute Grants and Affiliated Research Programs.
Data licensing is part of the MERInstitute's effort to support comprehensive and rigorous research that defines and evaluates the value and outcomes of graduate management education. Data sets are based on surveys of four constituency groups: prospective graduate management students, current students, alumni, and employers.
Data Set Descriptions
The following GMAC® surveys make up the available data sets:
mba.com Registrants Survey—a study of prospective graduate management students, first launched in 2003. The primary purposes are to understand the characteristics and behavior of those in different stages of deciding to pursue graduate management education; to explore their decision-making processes as they select the set of schools to which they apply and narrow it to the one they attend; and to follow the progress of prospective business school students in their pursuit of an MBA degree one year later.
Global Management Education Graduate Survey—an annual survey of students in their final year of graduate business school, first launched in 2000. The survey gauges the opinions of graduating students about their education and the value of their degrees, gathers information on how students choose the schools they attended, asks whether they would recommend their school to others, and explores what they intend to do with their degrees.
Alumni Perspectives Survey—a biannual panel survey of graduate business school alumni who previously participated in Global MBA® Graduate Surveys, first launched in 2001. The survey seeks to understand first and/or current job characteristics; track changes in responsibilities, promotions, and salaries; assess performance of graduate management education; and monitor educational needs of alumni.
Corporate Recruiters Survey—an annual survey of MBA employers, first launched in the 2001-2002 recruiting season. The survey gathers information that graduate school professionals, MBA students, and prospective students can use to gauge the job market and better understand employers' expectations; provides context to assist MBA employers as they develop recruiting and hiring plans; and offers comprehensive data to business school professionals and employers to benchmark their MBA recruiting practices.
