Halina Karachuk has been appointed associate dean for MBA programs at New York University’s Stern School of Business. Karachuk will direct strategic planning and leadership of the admissions, student services, and career placement areas for both the full-time MBA and the Langone part-time MBA programs. Prior to joining NYU Stern, she was vice president of customer information management at the American Express Company.

Before joining American Express, Karachuk was president of MONY Brokerage Inc. and led the insurance subsidiary to profitability during her five-year tenure. She also served as an assistant director of undergraduate admissions at Yale University. Karachuk holds an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and an undergraduate degree from Yale.

Carleen Kerttula has been appointed assistant dean and director of the newly merged full-time MBA program office and Graduate Business Career Center at University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management. The merger will allow the school to create an integrated MBA experience that closely links business education to students’ leadership development and careers. Since being appointed to direct the Graduate Business Career Center in November 2002, Kerttula has worked to improve services to students and the business community by refocusing on student services, marketing, and employer relations.

Kerttula holds a master’s degree in international management from Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Management. In 1993, she helped Thunderbird open its European campus in France. She spent eight years in international sales and marketing at the Toro Company prior to joining the Carlson School in 2000. She has also served as an adjunct faculty member at Cardinal Stritch University.

Anne M. Roberts has been appointed assistant dean of the Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College. Roberts is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Crummer’s full-time MBA program and direction of the Career Management Center. Prior to joining Crummer, Roberts worked for more than 16 years at the Walt Disney World Company in roles of increasing responsibility in operations, human resources, and marketing.

Roberts was selected the 1994 Walt Disney World Ambassador and represented the company and cast as a media spokesperson and goodwill emissary around the world. She also worked as a business program facilitator for the Disney Institute’s Professional Development Programs. Roberts joined the Crummer School in 2001 as director of the Career Management Center, leading career strategy counseling and job skills training for the school’s 400 full- and part-time students. In this role, Roberts has developed a career management curriculum and extended the center’s services to alumni. She holds a BA in sociology and an MBA.

Admissions, Career Services, and Marketing Professionals, Program Directors, and Others

Maria Hanlin has been promoted to director, recruiting and admissions, for the new W. P. Carey MBA—Online Program at Arizona State University’s W. P. Carey School of Business. She assumes this new role after two years as assistant director with the W. P. Carey MBA—Full-time Program. Prior to joining the Carey School, Hanlin served as graduate advisor for the College of Business Administration at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).

During her tenure at UTEP, Hanlin directed the implementation of the recruiting/admissions process for UTEP’s participation in what was then the new statewide online MBA (UT Telecampus). Her nine years at UTEP also included positions as faculty immigration specialist and international student advisor. She holds a master of arts in higher education administration from New Mexico State University and a bachelor of arts in psychology from the University of Georgia.
