"PTE Academic offers us an accurate way to measure English language ability to ensure that students who are non-native speakers of English will be successful in our programs,” said Sharon Hill, McCallum’s assistant dean and director of graduate admissions. Hill, who made the announcement in May, added that the test fits well with Bentley’s welcoming environment for these students.
Bentley joins London Business School, INSEAD, China Europe International Business School, and some 200 other academic programs that now accept this robust measure of English language proficiency for their candidates for admission.
By measuring the English language listening, reading, speaking, and writing abilities of non-native speakers, PTE Academic is designed to predict more efficiently the ability of test takers to function in an English-oriented academic environment. Developed by Pearson, a global leader in education and education technology, and endorsed by GMAC, the test will be launched internationally this October.
PTE Academic Has Many Advantages
The Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College was the first university in US to recognize PTE Academic. When that announcement was made last fall, John Elliott, Zicklin School dean, noted that one important feature of the new test is the ability of admissions professionals to listen to recorded speech by the test taker—a capability that is not available with other tests and is a key input to difficult admissions decisions. In addition, Elliott said, “the test is administered with the same high standards of security that characterize the GMAT, assuring that the test taker and the applicant for admission are the same individual.”
Pearson has created an online results service exclusively for institutions accepting PTE Academic scores. With functionality similar to the GMAT Score Reports Website, the PTE Academic Score Reports Website is designed as a flexible and convenient way for administrators to filter and report on the information needed to make admissions decisions in a timely manner.
