As 40 European countries move ahead with plans to standardize their higher education systems through the Bologna Accord, GMAC® is working hard to inform the education community about the changes, challenges, and opportunities represented by the new system of reforms.
On 20 January, the Council’s Bologna Task Force unveiled a comprehensive report on anticipated effects of the Bologna Accord, which will restructure higher education throughout the European Union when the reforms are fully implemented in 2010.
Among the predicted outcomes of the Bologna Accord are 2.4 million bachelor’s graduates entering the potential graduate education pipeline annually by 2010 and more student mobility across national borders. The task force report urges graduate management education accreditation bodies to help create common quality-assurance standards and procedures to ensure high quality among the graduate business programs that are likely to open across Europe to serve the growing applicant pool. The report also encourages European governments to make their educational systems broadly accessible to working people who want to return to school.
GMAC® hosted simultaneous press conferences on 20 January in Berlin, London, Milan, and Paris to introduce the report—generating a strong, positive response from media across Europe.
