Worldwide GMAT Volume Up for Seventh Straight Month

GMAT® volume is up in many parts of the world—and there is strong interest in the exam among prospective MBAs outside the United States.

GMAT® volume is continuing to rise outside the United States, pushing the number of tests taken around the world through the end of November—187,089—up nearly 3% compared with the same period in 2004.

Non-U.S. GMAT® volume rose a healthy 9.7% during the first 11 months of 2005, to 63,662. Meanwhile, testing volume in the mature U.S. market was essentially flat, at 123,427.

Globally, GMAT® volume has been on the rise since May, when testing activity reversed a negative trend and showed an increase of about half a percent. By the end of October, worldwide GMAT® volume was up 3%.

Test registration levels, a leading indicator, are displaying a trend similar to GMAT® volume. Registration volume soared in the Asian nations of India, Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan, and China through November 30. Activity in these countries powered an overall spike in registrations outside the United States of more than 13% during the first 11 months of 2005 compared with the same period last year.

When the mature U.S. market is taken into the mix, registration levels in 2005 show a year-over-year increase of 3.4%. As of November 30, prospective test takers around the world registered for the GMAT® exam 216,138 times in 2005. Registration volume in the United States alone declined 1.2%.
